Henrique Pavão was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1991.

In 2013 he completed his degree in sculpture at the Faculdade de Belas Artes of the Universidade de Lisboa, and in the same year he debuted his solo exhibition Transform the Space Using the Space, at Sótão, in Lisbon. Between 2014 and 2017, he was awarded with a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and completed his master degree in Visual Arts at the Malmö Art Academy, where he studied under the orientation of the danish artist Joachim Koester.

As a result of the conclusion of his degree, Henrique Pavão presented Fallen Between Cracks, at KHM Gallery, in Malmö, for which he received the Edstrandska Stiftelsens Stipendium award. In that same year, he was nominated for the Novo Banco Revelation award, from the Serralves Foundation, and won a scholarship from the Royal Academy of Arts, Stockholm.

In Lisbon, he showcased Wherever I am not is the Place where I am myself, at Appleton Square, in 2017.

He participated in collective exhibitions, of which Edstrandska Stiftelsens Stipendiater, KHM Gallery, in Malmö, 2016, and Grant Holder Show, at The Royal Academy of Arts, Stockholm stand out.

In 2017 he also participated in “AnoZero’17”, Coimbra’s Biennale, and presented his first institutional exhibition antes e depois de antes, at Culturgest Porto, curated by Delfim Sardo.

Last May, the artist presented the solo exhibition, Now I Became Aged, at UMA LULIK_, curated by Sérgio Mah.

In June 2019, Pavão will present a solo exhibition at SE8 gallery, London, after being invited by its directors, Nicolas de Oliveira and Nicola Oxley, authors of Installation Art  and Installation Art in the New Millennium: Empire of the Senses (Thames & Hudson, 1994 and 2003, respectively), two seminal international surveys of the practice.

Henrique Pavão is nominated to the 13th Edition of EDP Foundation’s New Artists Award 2019.

The artist lives and works in Lisbon and he is represented by UMA LULIK__.
